| Dalton has built bridges, both figuratively and literally, with the neighbouring communities, and has become an important source of employment for them. Dalton also supports the local traditional Zulu dance troupe. They are a hugely popular act among visitors to the reserve, and are now magnificently attired thanks to a grant from the Trust. They have recently won top honours in the annual KwaZulu-Natal traditional dance championships. |

The frontier farms have never discriminated between men and women – in these demanding conditions, where there are never enough hands to get through the work of a day, resourcefulness and toughness belong to everyone. So the women here work with stone and timber, fight fires, dig the soil. But they do it with red clay on their faces, to protect those perfect complexions from the elements, and with more than a hint of the practical yet graceful Dalton style. |
