By creating the Dalton Trust the original neglected land has been restored to its indigenous flora and fauna.
The rocky hills and river valleys of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands have always been pioneer country. They are now the site of a pioneering effort in environmental conservation, with Dalton Trust leading the charge.
Dalton has become a major force for change in the area. It has consolidated a number of different properties under its management,

purchased and settled various animals once indigenous to the area, initiated the systematic eradication of Wattle, and participated in initiatives such as the Stewardship programme of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
Dalton is now a proclaimed Nature Reserve, and was the first such property to achieve this prestigious status in KwaZulu-Natal. Under its stewardship programme, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, management partner to the Dalton Trust, promotes biodiversity in the province.
In anticipation of the effects of global |

warming, it looks at the establishment of conservation corridors along which animals will migrate over time as the climate changes. A project like Dalton becomes an inspiration to others and acts as a catalyst to create further conservation projects to promote stewardship and conserve the invaluable biodiversity of KwaZulu-Natal.
