The raptors dominate the skies over Dalton – the beefy jackal buzzard, the swift lanner falcon, able to hover over its prey, the vultures and secretary birds. It’s the perfect landscape for them – clear skies and open grassland, and an abundance of prey.   But closer to the ground, there is much to be seen – the orange-throated longclaw, the dapper stonechat, the spectacular malachite sunbird, an emerald splinter in the sun. At the water’s edge you may encounter a red-knobbed coot, a lily-trotting jacana, an elegant crake,   a flotilla of white-faced whistling ducks or a pair of Egyptian geese, and in the forest the deep scarlet flash of a loerie’s wing. And if you’re truly privileged, you may hear the high piping cry of the fish eagle in flight.   Site Map
